This unit is designed to fit categories 1, 2, and 3 narrow with or without a quick hitch.
If you have both the Cat-1 (7/8’’) and Cat-2 (1-1/8’’) pins, or pin bushings to slide over the cat 1 pins to make it cat 2, it is very easy to convert the new Pro-Tatch Winder frame from Cat-1 to Cat-2 mount and back again.
The ball valve is your variable speed/safety control. It should be used more as a safety shut-off, than a speed control. It is best to control the speed of the hydraulics on the tractor. This motor will create roughly 12 horsepower, which will easily pull old wire up out of the grass and trash that collects in a fence line over the years.

Removable yellow split reel. Hand spun smooth steel, designed with safety in mind.
Holds 1/2 mile of barbed or 1 mile of smooth wire.
Replaceable moly-impregnated polyethylene bushings on shaft to prevent wear. This bushing has proven to last for years of performance in the field.
Hydraulic motor creates 12 horse power under full load.
1/2" male pipe ends on hydraulic hose's ( we do not include hose tips )
Always, start slow and stop slow, to prevent damage to lovejoy coupler between motor and drive shaft. With the inertia of the spinning reel, a fast stop can cause damage to the coupler. This is not common, but can happen if the wire winder is not operated correctly.
The operator must remain seated on the tractor or like power source at all times while machine is in motion.

It is stated in our instructions to always have an operator on the tractor at all times while the machine is in motion. You’ll notice in this video that this tractor has a shut-off behind and below the seat the operator has easy access to while running this unit. Always keep one hand on that shut-off at all times while the machine is in motion if your tractor has that control option. If your tractor does not have that option, the operator must remain on the tractor at all times when the machine is in motion.

Photo to the left shows rubber spyder gear in place prior to mounting the motor on the motor mount. It is important that this lines up correctly with coupler on the shaft.
Always make sure the Lovejoy coupler and rubber spyder gear between the drive shaft and motor mount are true to each other. This will assure smooth operating while rolling wire.
Here at Hotwood's, it is not uncommon for us to stop and talk to a man like Curtis Wiedmaier while traveling through the countryside in order to get feedback on our products as well as see new ways how it’s done out here from the man in the field.
This is a fence Curtis is calling “the forever fence,” as he cut these hedge posts from his own farm and set them in concrete. One of the posts has 110 rings in it. That tells us that tree was a sapling in 1908. We all know that a good hedge post will ware out 2 post holes in its lifetime.
Curtis designed his own corner braces and then had them galvanized to also ensure the longevity of this fence.
Our hats are off to all you men and women out there that install any fence and especially to a man like Curtis that goes way over and above to build a fence as impressive as this one, just north of Muscatoh, Kansas.

Not only is our Universal Wire Unroller built to last, but it also has multiple mounting options so it can be used on the receiver of a pickup or mounted on the 3 point tool bar or your Hotwood’s winder. The unroller is easy to load—just fold the weight or resistance plate up out of the way, take the yellow spool carrier out of the frame, and split the two yellow spool carriers apart. Those are telescoping into each other. This allows you to put them through the center of the roll of new wire or any fitting reel. Place the roll back in the frame, lower the yellow resistance plate down on the reel, and you are ready to unroll wire.

Optional Universal Wire Unroller $389

Unroller shown mounted on pickup via 2” receiver hitch and one of our solid spools with resistance or brake plate being lowered in place. This plate will sit on top of the roll of wire as it pays out, keeping the roll from free spooling if you have to stop. The 2” receiver tube is long enough to give clearance for the tailgate to be in the down position while rolling out wire. The 5/8’’ shaft that protrudes outside the main frame through each side of the unroller is to be used as handles while lifting your reels in and out of the machine. The telescoping yellow circle plates are welded and slide together through our solid reels or a new roll of wire, barbed or smooth.
